Over the last few weeks, we’ve written about how just how good Nelson Agholor was during the 2020 season. He finally looked like the former first-round pick that we saw at USC and he was a perfect fit in the Raiders’ offense.
The Raiders will have a tough decision to make this offseason in regards to Agholor. Do they bring him back at a much more expensive cost? Or risk losing him and hope that one of their younger receivers in Henry Ruggs III or Bryan Edwards can adequately replace him in the starting lineup?
Whatever happens, it’s clear that Agholor will have a much more robust free-agent market this season compared to last year. In a recent article by Pro Football Focus, Agholor was named one of the ‘under-the-radar’ stars of this free-agent class. Here is a snippet of their thoughts on the Raiders’ receiver below:
“With the Raiders this season, however, he looked more like the player he did in college at USC — a dangerous deep threat. His average depth of target was almost six full yards deeper down the field — even more if you include plays nullified by penalty — and he was significantly more productive because of it, averaging 6.6 yards more per reception and 0.4 yards per route run.”
With Agholor taking a big leadership role on the team in the second half of the season, you would expect that Mike Mayock and Jon Gruden would do everything possible to bring him back. But if he receives an offer upwards of $10 million per season, the Raiders might not have the funds to match that.
