Raiders WR Antonio Brown will play vs. Broncos in Week 1

Oakland Raiders wide receiver Antonio Brown will play against the Denver Broncos on Sept. 9, coach Jon Gruden confirmed Friday.

“Antonio’s back today, we’re really excited about that,” Gruden told reporters attending practice. “Ready to move on. He’s had a lot of, obviously, time to think about things and we’re happy to have him back and I know Raider Nation is excited about that, too.”

After getting into a verbal fight with general manager Mike Mayock earlier this week, Brown was expected to be suspended for Monday’s game but he apologized during a meeting Friday and is now in better standing with the team.

Brown, 31, caught 104 passes for 1,297 yards and 15 touchdowns with the Pittsburgh Steelers last season. He might matchup against Broncos cornerback Chris Harris in Week 1.

“It’s a great matchup,” Harris said Wednesday. “It’s one of the best versus the best that’s been doing it for a long time. I think he’s a year above me and I’m right behind me, so we’ve been playing at a high level for a while. It’s going to be fun. It’s a rival game.”

Monday’s game (8:20 p.m. MT) will be nationally televised on ESPN.
