Raiders waive former 4th-round CB Nick Nelson, officially sign CB Prince Amukamara

The cornerback spot for the Raiders just got a lot stronger. Today the Raiders officially added veteran CB Prince Amukamara, bringing in a valuable veteran starter.

The former 19th overall pick has been a quality cornerback in the NFL for nearly a decade. He has had double-digit pass breakups in each of the past two seasons as the full-time starter in Chicago.

He was probably a top-five free agent when it opened in mid-March. The Raiders had initially agreed to terms with former Saints cornerback Eli Apple, but the deal was nixed. Since then the Raiders used two draft picks on cornerbacks, including 19th overall pick, Damon Arnette.

The 30-year-old has started 99 games in ten seasons with the Giants, Jaguars, and Bears. He got a ring in 2012 as part of the Super Bowl XLVI champion Giants. He was also a starter for the Bears in their run to the playoffs in 2018.

Former fourth-round pick Nick Nelson was waived by the Raiders with a failed physical designation to make room for Amukamara on the roster.
