Raiders trade up for QB Kyler Murray in latest mock draft

The Oakland Raiders have made some big splashes in free agency and via trades so far. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean they are done doing so.

In Doug Farrar’s latest mock draft at the Touchdown Wire, he has the Raiders moving up from No.4 to the first overall pick to select quarterback Kyler Murray. In exchange, the Raiders give up pick No.27 to move up. Here are Farrar’s thoughts on the trade and the pick:

This is a slam-dunk pick for the Raiders, and they’re still left with another first-round pick after the trade. Now, they have Murray dropping bombs to Brown and Williams, running all over the place, and like his paradigm predecessor Russell Wilson did for so many years, transcending Tom Cable’s horrid offensive lines with his own rare athletic gifts.

If Mike Mayock and Jon Gruden deem that Murray is a franchise quarterback and an upgrade over Derek Carr, then this isn’t an unrealistic scenario. Murray was fantastic in 2018, winning the Heisman Trophy and putting up numbers similar to Baker Mayfield.

Considering his arm talent and his athleticism, it’s hard to argue that he shouldn’t be the first pick in the 2019 NFL draft. As we get closer and closer to the draft, there continues to be more smoke surrounding the Raiders love for Murray.
