Raiders TE Foster Moreau excelling in Jon Gruden’s offense

Through the first month of the season, tight end Darren Waller has been one of the league’s best tight ends. He’s caught 33 passes for 320 yards, averaging nearly 10 yards per reception. However, Waller’s play isn’t totally unexpected, given how dominant he looked in training camp.

But it’s the play of another tight end for the Raiders that may be the most shocking. Fifth-round pick Foster Moreau was drafted by the Raiders in 2019, and he was expected to be a depth player, at best. But through the first four weeks, he’s become an essential piece in Oakland’s offense.

In Week 4, Moreau had the best game of his career, catching three passes for 30 yards and a touchdown. He finished the game with a grade of 86.6, according to Pro Football Focus as he dominated as both a receiver and a blocker.

With the Raiders light on receiver depth, they have chosen to use more two-tight end sets, and it’s working. They have two players in Waller and Moreau that can make plays in the passing game, as well as blockers in the run game.

While we are just a month into the regular season, Moreau already appears to be one of the best Day 3 picks in the 2019 draft. Look for him to continue to get more playing time as the season goes along.
