Raiders sign Mike Glennon to be Derek Carr's backup

Derek Carr has a new backup.

The Raiders announced Friday afternoon they signed veteran quarterback Mike Glennon, who fills the void left when the Raiders released A.J. McCarron last week for more cap and cash flexibility. The Raiders now have Carr, Glennon and Nathan Peterman as quarterbacks under contract.

Glennon played for the Buccaneers from 2013-16, the Bears in 2017 and the Cardinals last season. He has 22 career starts _ 13 came with Tampa Bay in 2013 _ and a 6-16 career record in those games. Glennon's career completion percentage stands at 60.9, and he's thrown for 5,107 yards, 35 touchdowns and 20 interceptions.

He saw time in two games last season as Josh Rosen's backup in Arizona, completing 15 of 21 passes for 174 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions.

Whether Glennon's arrival means the Raiders don't draft a quarterback early in next month's draft remains to be seen, so let the speculation continue about whether Jon Gruden is truly content with Carr as his quarterback in 2019.
