The Oakland Raiders have a new linebacker. According to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, the Raiders have signed veteran linebacker Vontaze Burfict to a one-year deal. According to Ian Rapoport, the deal is worth up to $5 million and it includes some incentives.
Burfict had some of his best seasons under defensive coordinator Paul Guenther and now will be rejoined with him in Oakland. The best season of his career came in 2013, where he started 16 games for the Bengals and made the only Pro Bowl of his career.
Burfict has started 73 games in the NFL and has totaled 610 tackles as well as countless suspensions and fines. However, considering the deal is only one year, it’s worth a gamble to see if Guenther can resurrect his career. Expect Burfict to get the first crack at gaining the team’s middle linebacker spot.
