The Raiders have announced the signing of a former Chiefs offensive lineman.
Jordan Devey will don black and silver in the AFC West in 2019. The versatile offensive linemen has been a member of the Chiefs since the 2016 season, but now he’ll join the Raiders. Devey got his first opportunity as a starter in 2018 when both Laurent Duvernay-Tardif and Mitch Morse went down with injury. Prior to that he’d been working on the practice squad for Kansas City.
Devey looked prime for a larger role with the Chiefs after he played some center in 2018. Unfortunately it didn’t last for Devey, he tore a pectoral muscle during the teams game against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 7. He was subsequently placed on injured reserve.
After the Raiders lost Jon Feliciano to the Bills they were searching for a versatile interior offensive lineman. That’s the role that Devey is best suited for, and the role he’ll likely play for the Raiders.
Devey is a player that the Chiefs invested a lot of developmental time into. I’m sure it would have been nice to see him return, but I don’t think they’ll be shedding too many tears over him leaving either. It took two years of adjustment time before he was ready to play in the Chiefs’ system. I’m curious how quickly he’ll be capable of adjusting to Tom Cable’s scheme with the Raiders.
