Raiders set to face Seahawks week after helping them secure higher draft pick

It wasn’t but a few days ago that the Raiders had a few extra fans in Seattle. Namely the Seattle Seahawks.

Why would the Seahawks be cheering on the Raiders?

For that answer we go back to last offseason when the Seahawks sent Russell Wilson to Denver in exchange for a first round pick.

That means whatever pick the Broncos would have secured in this upcoming draft belongs to the Seahawks. Right now that pick is quite high considering the Broncos have not been getting the return on their investment with Wilson this season.

Last Sunday the Raiders faced the Broncos. The Raiders won that game, putting the current draft position for the pick the Seahawks own from the Broncos at number five overall — one spot below the Raiders current projected pick at fourth overall.

Meanwhile the Seahawks can focus on the playoff chase as they face the Raiders on Sunday.

At 6-4, they are currently in line for a wildcard playoff spot and the 21st pick in the draft.

Geno Smith has been everything Russell Wilson hasn’t been.

Smith’s 72.8 completion percentage leads the NFL among those with at least 15 attempts and his passer rating of 108 is second only to Tua Tagovailoa.

Smith’s 17 TD passes and 2474 yards passing rank 6th and 7th in the league respectively. He’s only thrown four interceptions and just once this season did he have more interceptions than touchdown passes. And he also has a touchdown on the ground.

Safe to say the Seahawks aren’t missing Russell Wilson. And Wilson’s terrible decision to throw the ball away instead of taking the sack late against the Raiders last week did them a big favor in the draft as well.
