Raiders select WR Henry Ruggs with the No. 12 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft

With the No. 12 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Las Vegas Raiders have selected wide receiver Henry Ruggs from Alabama.

Ruggs caught 98 passes in his college career, averaging 17.5 yards per reception. Ruggs has elite speed as he ran a 4.27 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine. Ruggs was the first receiver drafted in the 2020 NFL Draft, ahead of CeeDee Lamb and Jerry Jeudy.

While Ruggs isn’t a complete receiver, he does have the speed and quickness to become a Tyreek Hill-like player in the NFL. The Raiders could still use a more complete receiver at the top of their depth chart, but his homerun speed is tough to find.

Ruggs wasn’t the No. 1 receiver at Alabama, but the Raiders are hoping that his speed will help open up underneath routes for Darren Waller and Hunter Renfrow. But given his special athleticism, he could become one of the best receivers in the NFL.

It’s clear that the Raiders wanted to add speed to their offense and Ruggs can certainly do that. Look for him to become a Day 1 starter for the Raiders.
