Raiders select first defensive player in Dane Brugler’s latest mock draft

If your team needs help on offense, this is the draft for you. There could be as many as four quarterbacks selected in the top eight picks along with three receivers inside the top 10. The offensive line group is as good as ever and there is an elite tight end prospect in Brock Bowers.

All of this is good news for the Raiders, who could be looking to draft a defensive player in Round 1. There is a very realistic chance that they could have their pick of the litter on defense when they are on the clock at No. 13.

That was the scenario that played out in Dane Brugler’s latest mock draft at The Athletic. And at pick No. 13, the Raiders selected cornerback Quinyon Mitchell from Toledo in Round 1. Here is what Brugler had to say about the pick:

No defensive players in the top 12? The first defensive player selected is a MAC prospect? Neither outcome is crazy. Mitchell checks every box — tape, production, all-star game and now combine testing (including a 4.33-second 40-yard dash).

The Raiders would love to add a No. 1 cornerback to their roster and Mitchell fits the mold. He was dominant during the Senior Bowl week and continued that positive momentum to the NFL Combine.

Mitchell might be the top cornerback in the class and could be a very realistic option for Las Vegas in Round 1. Don’t be surprised if he is the first defensive player off the board in April.
