Raiders select DE Montez Sweat with No. 4 pick in latest CBS Sports mock

Over the last few weeks, we are starting to a broader range of players mocked to the Raiders at pick No. 4. That is a little uncommon as mocks typically become more “chalk” at this time of the year.

In CBS Sports’ latest mock draft, Sean Wagner McGough, a senior writer at the site, gave Oakland edge rusher Montez Sweat with the team’s first selection. Here are all three picks for the Raiders in the first round via Wagner-McGough:

No. 4 – Montez Sweat, EDGE, Mississippi State

No. 24 – Josh Jacobs, RB, Alabama

No. 27 – Jeffery Simmons, DT, Mississippi State

Sweat became a household name after he dominated the NFL Combine. He ran a 4.41 40-yard dash at 260 pounds. Before Sweat, only four players in NFL history have run a sub 4.50 40-yard dash, and none have run a sub 4.43, according to mockdraftable.

Picking Sweat with the No. 4 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft seems a tad rich. However, his athleticism is rare, and his college production isn’t all that bad either (22.5 sacks in the past two seasons.) If the Raiders want to gamble on upside early in the draft, Sweat wouldn’t be a bad option. But there will likely be better options on the board at pick No. 4.
