Raiders select Clemson DE Clelin Ferrell in new NFL.com mock draft

Nearly every day, a new mock draft appears, and it typically has the same two or three players going to the Raiders at No.4. Usually, it’s either Alabama’s Quinnen Williams or Michigan’s Rashan Gary who winds up being given to Oakland, both very likely selections for the Raiders.

But in a  recent mock draft by NFL.com, the Raiders were given a new name at No.4; Clemson defensive end Clelin Ferrell. Take a look at all three of Maurice Jones-Drew’s picks for the Raiders in his mock draft:

Clelin Ferrell – Edge

Greedy Williams – CB

Noah Fant – TE

Greedy Williams and Noah Fant are two extremely athletic players who theoretically could start for the Raiders in Year 1. But the story here is the selection of Ferrell at pick No.4.

In college, Ferrell was one of the most consistent rushers over the last three seasons, racking up 50.5 tackles for a loss and 27 sacks. Ferrell might not have the pure upside of a player like Josh Allen, but you can bank on him being a solid prove given his college production at a powerhouse school like Clemson.

However, picking Ferrell inside of the top-five seems a little too “safe,” even for the Raiders. Oakland could likely trade down a few spots and still be able to grab him. Nevertheless, Ferrell fills a need and should be able to produce right away. For that reason alone, this mock gets a passing grade from me.
