Raiders select 2 Alabama players in Todd McShay’s mock draft

In ESPN’s Todd McShay’s latest mock draft, he as the Raiders selecting two Alabama players in the first round. While neither fills an immediate need for the team, both are considered to be the top players at each of their position in this class. Take a look at his three picks in the first round for the Raiders:

4. Oakland Raiders – Quinnen Williams, DT, Alabama

24. Oakland Raiders – A.J. Brown, WR, Ole Miss

27. Oakland Raiders – Josh Jacobs, RB, Alabama

Williams is arguably the best player in this entire class. As a redshirt sophomore, Williams tallied 19.5 tackles for a loss and eight sacks. He finished the season as Pro Football Focus’ top-ranked player in the country. Grabbing potentially the best player in the class will always be the right move, regardless of position.

With the 24th selection in the 2019 NFL Draft, McShay gave the Raiders wide receiver A.J. Brown of Mississippi. Over the last two seasons, Brown has dominated in the SEC, catching 160 passes for 2,572 yards and 17 touchdowns. Most of his production came as a slot receiver, but his size and body control make him an excellent fit in Jon Gruden’s offense.

Finally, with the 27th pick, McShay gave the Raiders another Alabama player. This time, it was running back Josh Jacobs, who has become a rising star in the draft community. Jacobs lacks elite production, but his speed, balance, and power remind many of Alvin Kamara coming out of Tennessee. With the possibility of Marshawn Lynch and/or Doug Martin not returning in 2019, running back could be a big need for the Raiders this offseason.

Overall, this is a solid draft by McShay. While you could make a case that the Raiders didn’t address two of their most important needs (edge rusher and cornerback), all three players listed above would be instant starters for the team.
