Raiders’ secondary ranked 27th heading into 2019 by Pro Football Focus

The Raiders currently have one of the youngest and most talented secondaries in the NFL. There is a chance the team could be starting as many as three first-rounders in their secondary during Week 1 of the regular season.

But despite their youth and draft pedigree, not everyone is convinced the unit is ready to compete against the best offenses in the NFL. In a recent piece by Pro Football Focus, the Raiders’ secondary was ranked 27th out of 32 by the site. Take a look at the site’s thoughts on the unit entering the 2019 season:

The Raiders now have a number of former first-rounders in their secondary, but the one Raiders fans have to be keeping their fingers crossed for is Gareon Conley. He had a very up-and-down second season, but he finished with some impressive stats. He allowed a completion percentage against of 54.0 and a passer rating of 72.8.

The Raiders’ secondary will likely hinge on those three former first-round picks; Gareon Conley, Karl Joseph, and Johnathan Abram. If all three can make big leaps in their play this season, it wouldn’t be that shocking to see them climb up this list dramatically by this time next year. They clearly have talent, they just need to prove it on the field.
