Raiders safeties Karl Joseph and Johnathan Abram share the field during OTA’s

After the end of the first round, the rumbles around Raiders Nation was the end of Karl Joseph. By drafting Johnathan Abram at pick No. 27, many believed it signaled the team moving on from Joseph.

While the first-round pick from 2016 has been a solid player, he has not lived up to the expectations that warrant a pick that high. Joseph started OTA’s with the first team along with Eric Harris, but today that changed as the rookie saw more time with the first-team, according to Michael Gehlken of the Las Vegas Review-Journal:

The Raiders using both of these players on the field at the same time brings interesting prospects for the look of this defense as we enter training camp. Abram and Joseph display the ability to play either safety position, but Abrams could be better in quarters coverage, allowing Joseph to roam free over the top.

If Joseph and Abram play the majority of the safety snaps together and perform well, it will be interesting to see how the Raiders handle Joseph after the 2019 season.
