Raiders rookie report card after Week 7 loss to Packers

The Raiders fell to the Packers in Week 7 to fall to 3-3 on the season. However, several of their rookies had impressive days that kept the game competitive for at least a few quarters.

Today, we will break down the performances from their entire class from 2019. Here is the team’s rookie report card after Week 7.

DE Clelin Ferrell: F

After suffering a concussion in Week 4, No. 4 overall pick Clelin Ferrell returned to the field and assumed his spot in the starting lineup. However, it was hard to tell he was even on the field. Ferrell failed to record a single stat and could not produce any pressure on Aaron Rodgers. It was another day to forget for Ferrell.

RB Josh Jacobs: A

Once again, Josh Jacobs looked like a superstar this week, totaling 134 yards on 24 touches. It could have been an even bigger day for Jacobs if Oakland could have stayed more competitive in the second half, but that wasn’t Jacobs’ fault. He’s quickly established himself as one of the best running backs in the NFL.

SS Johnathan Abram: N/A

The No. 27 pick in the 2019 NFL draft suffered a shoulder injury in Week 1 and was placed on the injured reserve list. The expectation is that Abram will miss the entire season. 2016 first-round pick Karl Joseph started in place of Abram in Week 7.

CB Trayvon Mullen: C

Once again, cornerback Trayvon Mullen didn’t play much in this contest as he is buried on the team’s depth chart. The hope is that Mullen will eventually develop into the team’s No. 2 cornerback opposite of Gareon Conley. But as for now, he is merely a depth player.

DE Maxx Crosby: A

Only one player was able to record a sack for the Raiders on Sunday, and that was the fourth-round pick, Maxx Crosby. Crosby has recorded sacks in back to back weeks and is quickly becoming the team’s best edge rusher. Crosby even drew praise from commentator Tony Romo, who called him a future Pro Bowler. Through seven weeks, Crosby has out-performed Ferrell.

CB Isaiah Johnson: N/A

After suffering a broken bone in his face during the team’s first preseason game, fourth-round pick Isaiah Johnson was placed on the Raiders’ injured reserve list. He is eligible to return to the team after Week 8 and is on track to play in the near future.

TE Foster Moreau: A

Once again, tight end Foster Moreau had a fantastic day for the Raiders as the team’s second tight end. Moreau caught a touchdown in the first half and dominated as a blocker, helping Oakland run for 155 yards on 31 carries. Moreau is one of the best second-tight ends in the NFL and is an ideal complement to Darren Waller.

WR Hunter Renfrow: B

Despite all of the injuries at receiver, fifth-round pick Hunter Renfrow didn’t see a ton of action in Week 7. He did catch two targets for 14 yards, but he was quiet for most of the day.

DE Quinton Bell: N/A

Quinton Bell was released from Oakland’s practice squad last week as the team continues to churn the bottom of the roster. Bell was just too raw of a player for Oakland to continue to stash.
