The Oakland Raiders have won two straight games as they upset the Bears in London to improve to 3-2. The Raiders were able to win this contest in part due to several of their draft picks.
Today, we will break down the performances from their entire class from 2019. Here is the team’s rookie report card after Week 5.
DE Clelin Ferrell: N/A
After suffering a concussion in Week 4, No. 4 overall pick Clelin Ferrell was inactive for the team’s game against the Bears. Oakland is hoping that Ferrell will be ready to play in Week 6.
RB Josh Jacobs: A
Once again, it was the Josh Jacobs show in Oakland. He rushed for 116 yards on 23 carries and scored two touchdowns. He scored the most important touchdown of the game, giving the Raiders the lead with less than two minutes to go. Jacobs is a superstar and is proving to be worth the No. 24 pick.
SS Johnathan Abram: N/A
The No. 27 pick in the 2019 NFL draft suffered a shoulder injury in Week 1 and was placed on the injured reserve list. The expectation is that Abram will miss the entire season. 2016 first-round pick Karl Joseph started in place of Abram in Week 5.
CB Trayvon Mullen: C
Once again, cornerback Trayvon Mullen didn’t play much in this contest as he is buried on the team’s depth chart. The hope is that Mullen will eventually develop into the team’s No. 2 cornerback opposite of Gareon Conley. But as for now, he is merely a depth player.
DE Maxx Crosby: A
After the best game of his career in Week 4, Maxx Crosby followed it up with another excellent performance. Crosby recorded the first sack of his career on a critical second down in the first quarter. That allowed the Raiders to get off the field to force the punt. Through five weeks, Crosby has been the team’s best defensive end.
CB Isaiah Johnson: N/A
After suffering a broken bone in his face during the team’s first preseason game, fourth-round pick Isaiah Johnson was placed on the Raiders’ injured reserve list. He is eligible to return to the team after Week 8.
TE Foster Moreau: A
Once again, Moreau made a bunch of essential plays for the Raiders as he led the team in receiving yards. He is a perfect complement to Darren Waller as he can block and play in two-tight end sets. Moreau has been one of the best value picks in the entire draft through five weeks.
WR Hunter Renfrow: D
It wasn’t the best day for the Raiders’ slot receiver as Renfrow dropped multiple passes throughout the game. Renfrow did make a crucial catch late in the fourth quarter to give Oakland a first down, but it was a rough day other than that.
DE Quinton Bell: N/A
Quinton Bell is currently on the Raiders’ practice squad and has not appeared in a game yet. He continues to be a high-upside project which the team is interested in developing over the next few seasons.
