The Oakland Raiders got a much-needed win in Indianapolis, thanks in part to many of their rookies. Today, we will break down the performances from their entire class from 2019. Here is the team’s rookie report card after Week 4.
DE Clelin Ferrell: D+
It wasn’t a great day for the No. 4 overall pick as Ferrell was severely outplayed by Maxx Crosby. Ferrell finished the game with just one tackle, no quarterback hits, and no sacks. Bigger days are coming for the former Clemson edge rusher.
RB Josh Jacobs: B
Once again, Josh Jacobs was a workhorse for the Raiders. He touched the ball 19 times for 108 total yards. While he failed to reach the end zone, Jacobs continued to impress. Oakland would be wise to get him 20 or more touches in every game going forward.
SS Johnathan Abram: N/A
The No. 27 pick in the 2019 NFL draft suffered a shoulder injury in Week 1 and was placed on the injured reserve list. The expectation is that Abram will miss the entire season. 2016 first-round pick Karl Joseph started in place of Abram.
CB Trayvon Mullen: C
Once again, cornerback Trayvon Mullen didn’t play much in this contest as he is buried on the team’s depth chart. The hope is that Mullen will eventually develop into the team’s No. 2 cornerback opposite of Gareon Conley. But as for now, he is merely a depth player.
DE Maxx Crosby: A
Maxx Crosby made the first big play of his NFL career, forcing a fumble in the second quarter. With the Colts’ driving, Crosby forced the fumble on 3rd and 1 inside the Raiders’ red-zone. On the next drive, he knocked down a pass on 2nd and 18. The fourth-round defensive end is finally starting to come into his own.
CB Isaiah Johnson: N/A
After suffering a broken bone in his face during the team’s first preseason game, fourth-round pick Isaiah Johnson was placed on the Raiders’ injured reserve list. He is eligible to return to the team after eight weeks.
TE Foster Moreau: A
While Darren Waller has received all the headlines, it was Foster Moreau who caught the first touchdown of the game. It was Moreau’s first career touchdown. Moreau was also great as a blocker and is a perfect complement to Waller as the team’s second tight end.
WR Hunter Renfrow: C
Renfrow didn’t have a big role in Week 4, catching two passes for 18 yards on three targets. With Oakland getting a big lead early on, Oakland wasn’t forced to pass much nor did they get in many long down and distance situations. Expect Renfrow to have bigger games in the future.
DE Quinton Bell: N/A
Quinton Bell is currently on the Raiders’ practice squad and did not play in Week 1. He continues to be a high-upside project who the team is interested in developing over the next few seasons.
