The Oakland Raiders were not able to upset the Kansas City Chiefs at home despite holding them scoreless in three different quarters. However, many players in their rookie class stood out once again. Here is the team’s rookie report card after Week 3.
DE Clelin Ferrell: C
After recording a sack in Week 1, the No. 4 pick in the 2019 draft has gone back to back games without recording a sack. However, that doesn’t mean Ferrell wasn’t at least somewhat productive in Week 3. Ferrell recorded a pass deflection on third down, which nearly turned into an interception. But the team needs him to make more plays as a rusher and they are hoping that will happen sooner rather than later.
RB Josh Jacobs: B
There just wasn’t a lot of running room for Josh Jacobs in this contest. It also didn’t help that Oakland was behind by multiple scores pretty early as well. Jacobs finished the game with 44 rushing yards on 10 carries.
SS Johnathan Abram: N/A
The No. 27 pick in the 2019 NFL draft suffered a shoulder injury in Week 1 and was placed on the injured reserve list. The expectation is that Abram will miss the entire season. 2016 first-round pick Karl Joseph started in place of Abram.
CB Trayvon Mullen: C
With Gareon Conley back in the lineup, Trayvon Mullen wasn’t on the field much for Oakland. Minnesota threw just 21 passes compared to 38 runs. Expect Mullen to get more playing time as the season goes along.
DE Maxx Crosby: C
With Clelin Ferrell, Arden Key and Benson Mayowa taking up most of the pass-rushing snaps, there wasn’t much left for Maxx Crosby. He finished the game with just one tackle and no quarterback hits or pressures.
CB Isaiah Johnson: N/A
After suffering a broken bone in his face during the team’s first preseason game, fourth-round pick Isaiah Johnson was placed on the Raiders’ injured reserve list. He is eligible to return to the team after eight weeks.
TE Foster Moreau: C-
Moreau caught the first pass of the game but didn’t do much after that. The starter, Darren Waller, dominated and Moreau took a backseat. Assuming the Raiders can keep games closer going forward, expect to see Moreau on the field more. He’s an improving blocker who can also help out in the passing game as well.
WR Hunter Renfrow:
It was a rough day for Hunter Renfrow has he struggled to create much separation against the Vikings’ defense. Renfrow did catch three passes for 28 yards, but he needs to be a bigger factor in the passing game if he wants to be the full-time slot receiver.
DE Quinton Bell: N/A
Quinton Bell is currently on the Raiders’ practice squad and did not play in Week 1. He continues to be a high-upside project who the team is interested in developing over the next few seasons.
