The Oakland Raiders were not able to upset the Kansas City Chiefs at home despite holding them scoreless in three different quarters. However, many players in their rookie class stood out once again. Here is the team’s rookie report card after Week 2.
DE Clelin Ferrell: C
The No. 4 pick in the 2019 draft started once again for the Raiders, but he didn’t play as well as he did in Week 1. Ferell was called for a neutral zone infraction in the second quarter on a key third down. He finished the game with three total tackles and one tackle for a loss.
RB Josh Jacobs: A
Despite a poor game-script for the running back, Josh Jacobs was highly effective once again for the Raiders. He received just 12 carries, but he was able to convert those rushes into 99 total yards. Jacobs certainly wasn’t the reason Oakland lost today, but he should continue to see more work in closer matchups.
SS Johnathan Abram: N/A
The No. 27 pick in the 2019 NFL draft suffered a shoulder injury in Week 1 and was placed on the injured reserve list. The expectation is that Abram will miss the entire season. 2016 first-round pick Karl Joseph started in place of Abram.
CB Trayvon Mullen: B
In Week 1, second-round pick Trayvon Mullen was forced into action after Gareon Conley. This week, Mullen was used as a reserve, but he did play well when he was on the field. The Raiders will continue to ease Mullen into action as a rookie.
DE Maxx Crosby: D
Fourth-round pick Maxx Crosby played more this week as Oakland continues to search for defensive linemen. However, Crosby had a costly roughing the passer on third down that led to points for the Chiefs. Crosby continues to be a work in progress for the Raiders.
CB Isaiah Johnson: N/A
After suffering a broken bone in his face during the team’s first preseason game, fourth-round pick Isaiah Johnson was placed on the Raiders’ injured reserve list. He is eligible to return to the team after eight weeks.
TE Foster Moreau: B
After catching two passes in Week 1, tight end Foster Moreau didn’t see the field much in this contest, especially in the second half. He’s been primarily used as a blocker and did a fine job in this game. Look for Moreau to get more work next week against Minnesota.
WR Hunter Renfrow: D+
Renfrow had an up-and-down game after failing to haul in a few third-down passes and he was called for a false start on another third down. He finished the game with four receptions for 30 yards on eight targets.
DE Quinton Bell: N/A
Quinton Bell is currently on the Raiders’ practice squad and did not play in Week 1. He continues to be a high-upside project who the team is interested in developing over the next few seasons.
