In a lesson for those who rush to judgment and to be the first to report news without getting the facts, I present to you what happened with Raiders rookie Lynn Bowden Jr. this morning.
Just after 9 a.m. time in Youngstown, Ohio, a local television station reported the DEA was searching the home of Raiders rookie running back Lynn Bowden Jr.
The pictures showed Lynn Bowden Jr and his son in cuffs on the porch of the home during the search. This led to reported he had been arrested.
Neither of those details were true. While Bowden was in cuffs, it was not his home and he was not arrested.
It was, in fact, Lynn Bowden’s grandmother, as Lynn’s mother attempted to clear up a short time later.
The Raiders offered no comment on the situation and finally, just after 1pm Eastern (four hours after the initial reports came out), Bowden’s agency put out a statement on the matter, making it clear it was not Bowden’s house, he wasn’t arrested, and in fact, no one was arrested. The DEA finished their search and left.
Unfortunately, as the saying goes, a lie travels around the world before the truth gets out of bed. And for many of us on the West Coast, that was literally true. The erroneous reports began at 6 a.m. PT while we didn’t learn the true facts and conclusion until after 10 a.m PT.
