Raiders reportedly agree to contract extension with CB David Amerson

ALAMEDA, Calif. _ Cornerback David Amerson, a waiver find last season after washing out in Washington, has reportedly cashed in with the Raiders.

Amerson has agreed to a four-year contract extension with $18 million in guaranteed money and $38 million in total value, the NFL Network reported.

After coming to the Raiders, the former second-round draft pick had four interceptions, 35 passes defensed and 53 total tackles _ all career highs _ in 14 games.

The Raiders have not confirmed Amerson's signing and are not expected to have any announcements this weekend.

Together with free-agent signee Sean Smith, who left Kansas City and signed a four-year, $40 million contract, $20 million of which is guaranteed, the Raiders have made a considerable investment in what has been a problem area in recent years.

Amerson figures to be the lone returning starter in a rebuilt secondary, joining Smith and safeties Karl Joseph, a first-round pick out of West Virginia, and Reggie Nelson, a free agent from Cincinnati who had eight interceptions last season.

Under the terms of his original deal signed with Washington as a rookie, Amerson was scheduled to make $880,123 in salary this season in the last year of his contract and he would have been eligible for unrestricted free agency.
