Raiders release WR J.J. Nelson, re-sign WR Marcell Ateman

After releasing wide receiver Marcell Ateman earlier this week, the team has re-signed him. However, his move back on the roster was a costly one. According to ESPN’s Field Yates, the team has released veteran wide receiver J.J. Nelson, who the team signed earlier this offseason.

Nelson played in just two games for the Raiders, catching four passes for 36 yards in the team’s Week 3 loss to the Vikings. But Nelson has struggled to stay healthy as he has dealt with a leg injury that has made him inactive over the past two weeks.

While there is certainly the possibility that the team re-signs Nelson once he is healthy enough to play, Oakland might just move on from him entirely as they have traded for two receivers (Zay Jones and Trevor Davis) over the last two weeks. Nelson was among the several players the Oakland Raiders have signed this offseason who are no longer with the team.
