Raiders release veteran WR Ryan Grant, promote LB Justin Phillips

The Oakland Raiders have suffered a significant amount of injuries at linebacker over the last few weeks. In response, the team promoted Justin Phillips from the practice squad to fill in for the injured Marquel Lee.

In a corresponding move, the team released veteran receiver Ryan Grant, who was signed this offseason, according to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport. Grant caught just four passes for 14 yards for the Raiders this season after signing a one-year, $1.25 million deal this offseason.

With the team already having Hunter Renfrow on the roster, the Raiders didn’t need another slot receiver. And with Tyrell Williams, J.J. Nelson and Keelan Doss making an impact on the outside, there just wasn’t many snaps available for the veteran receiver. Grant is now subject to waivers.
