Raiders release QB Landry Jones, sign TE Erik Swoope

The Raiders have officially signed tight end Erik Swoope and in a corresponding move, they have released backup quarterback Landry Jones to get their roster back down to 90.

Jones was signed to compete for the team’s backup quarterback job with Mike Glennon and Nathan Peterman, but he won’t get that opportunity. Instead, Glennon and Peterman will battle it out in training camp for the right to be Derek Carr’s backup.

Jones was originally a fourth-round pick by the Steelers in the 2013 draft and has started five games in his career. His career passer rating sits at 86.2 and he has averaged 7.8 yards per attempt. While he ultimately wasn’t able to catch on in Oakland, expect Jones to find another team before the start of the 2019 season.
