Raiders release QB A.J. McCarron, save $5 million

The Oakland Raiders have decided to release backup quarterback A.J. McCarron, saving $5 million against the cap. The move cost the Raiders zero in dead money as there were no guarantees left on his contract.

McCarron was originally acquired by the Raiders via trade as they gave up a fifth-round pick for his services. He appeared in two games before being released by the team.

With McCarron off the roster, the Raiders will be searching for a backup quarterback during free agency. Expect the team to find one over the next few days.
