Raiders release 2019 7th-round pick DE Quinton Bell from practice squad

One of the best moments of the 2019 NFL draft was Mike Mayock stumping the NFL Network’s video crew by selecting defensive end Quinton Bell from Prairie View A&M in the seventh-round. However, it appears that Mayock might have dug just a little too deep when picking Bell this year.

On Tuesday, the team announced that they have released Bell from the practice squad, ending his short time in Oakland. In a corresponding move, the team signed linebacker Kendall Donnerson to the practice squad.

Donnerson was originally a seventh-round pick by the Packers, but he was placed on the team’s injured reserve list in August. He later reached an injury settlement with the team and is now healthy and ready to practice.

With the Raiders having so many injuries at linebacker, it’s not a surprise that the team wanted to add depth at the position. But it is somewhat surprising that they have decided to move on from Bell. He was clearly a player that needed a few years to develop, but Oakland must have felt that he was too far away from being ready to contribute.
