Raiders release 2018 5th-round pick P Johnny Townsend

The punting competition is over; undrafted free agent A.J. Cole has beaten out former 2018 fifth-round pick Johnny Townsend as the team announced today that he has been released.

Townsend was the team’s starting punter in 2018, but he averaged just 43.2 yards per punt. He was pretty easily beaten out by Cole, who simply had a much stronger leg. Townsend is now subject to waivers.
