While the NFL draft is over, another kind of “draft” is going to be starting very soon; fantasy football drafts.
Over the next several months, fantasy football fans will begin working on their draft strategies for all kinds of leagues. One player people should get to know really quickly is Oakland’s Josh Jacobs from Alabama.
With Jacobs being the only running back to be selected in the first round of April’s draft, it likely means that Oakland expects to feed him during his rookie season. And considering the lack of other options on the team, he is a pretty safe bet to be a productive player right.
In Pro Football Focus’ first dynasty mock draft of the season, Jacobs was selected with the No. 1 overall pick by CBS Sport’s Chris Towers.
Jacobs was selected over the likes of N’Keal Harry and Kyler Murray, who have each received some buzz to be the No. 1 pick in rookie drafts. Here is what Towers had to say about the selection of Jacobs at No. 1:
Jacobs was already the likely No. 1 pick in most rookie drafts coming out of the NFL draft based on his high fantasy potential and clearest line to a starting job, but this week’s injury to Isaiah Crowell cemented that, just about locking him into a big-time role from Week 1. He was Jeff Ratcliffe’s No. 1 rookie back in dynasty before the draft.
Over the next several months, expect Jacobs to be the consensus No. 1 pick in rookie drafts and for him to shoot up redraft boards. Considering the workload he is likely to receive, he has to be one of the favorites to win rookie of the year in 2019.
