Raiders QB situation ranked at No. 11 by Bleacher Report heading into 2020 season

When it comes to the most important position on the football field, the Raiders are actually in pretty good shape compared to the rest of the NFL. Not only do they have a good starter in Derek Carr, but they now have arguably the best backup quarterback in the NFL in Marcus Mariota.

While neither player would qualify as an “elite” passer, both have proven to be above-average starters who can lead their teams to the playoffs. And for that reason, it’s tough to rank too many other quarterback situations ahead of them.

In a recent piece by Chris Roling of Bleacher Report, he ranked all 32 quarterback situations entering the 2020 season. Not surprisingly, the Raiders finished inside the top half of the league at No. 11. Here is a snippet of Roling’s thoughts on Carr this season:

Last season, Derek Carr excelled statistically for the Las Vegas Raiders, completing 70.4 percent of his passes for 4,054 yards, 21 touchdowns and just eight picks on a gaudy 7.9 yards per attempt. He also quietly sat on three game-winning drives and a 10th-ranked 62.2 QBR, yet went just 7-9.

If the Raiders can get more production out of their wide receivers this season, especially with the additions of Henry Ruggs and Bryan Edwards, that should improve the overall play of whatever quarterback is on the field.

Given this team’s offensive line, running game and tight ends, Carr and/or Mariota should be in line for a big season in 2020.
