Things couldn’t have gone any more perfect for the Oakland Raiders in Week 1. Not only did the team win on Monday Night Football, but they did so in convincing fashion against one of their biggest rivals in the Denver Broncos.
The single biggest reason the Raiders were able to have success in Week 1 was due to the play of their franchise quarterback; Derek Carr. Against Denver, Carr completed 22 of 26 passes for 259 yards and a score. It was arguably his best performance in several years.
Pro Football Focus was impressed by Carr’s play on Monday night, giving him the league’s highest-grade for quarterbacks in Week 1. He looked confident and as accurate as ever in Jon Gruden’s offense.
This week, Carr will face a much easier defense in the Kansas City Chiefs. However, the pressure will be on the Raiders’ franchise quarterback to keep up with the 2018 MVP, Patrick Mahomes. Carr will need another elite performance in Week 2 if Oakland wants to upset one of the best teams in the NFL.
