Raiders QB Derek Carr unable to find success downfield versus Chiefs

Sunday was not a great game for Derek Carr, who threw two back-breaking interceptions against the Chiefs. He finished the game with 222 passing yards on 30 attempts, most of which occurred in garbage time.

The biggest flaw in Carr’s performance on Sunday was his inability to find any success throwing the ball downfield. According to the NFL Next Gen Stats, Carr completed just three passes beyond 10 yards on Sunday, as he had four incompletions, including one interception. Take a look at his full passing chart from Week 13:

Oakland’s offensive line certainly played a part in this lack of success, as well as subpar wide receiver play. But when Carr can’t challenge defenses down the field, their offense just doesn’t work. Oakland is going to have to fix their passing offense this offseason if they want to stand a chance in the AFC.
