Raiders QB Derek Carr and WR Antonio Brown 100-1 underdogs to win NFL MVP

The Raiders have had just two NFL MVP’s in their franchise’s history: Marcus Allen (1985) and Rich Gannon (2002). But could another Raider make their way into the history books this season and win the prestigious award?

Entering the 2019 season, Raiders’ quarterback Derek Carr is listed as a 100-1 underdog to win the AP NFL MVP Award, according to the Westgate Las Vegas Superbook. His teammate, Antonio Brown, is also listed at 100-1 to win the award.

For either player to win the award, the Raiders would need to make the playoffs and would likely need to win at least 10+ games. For Carr, he would need to set career-highs across the board and probably would need to eclipse 40+ touchdowns. While that may seem high, an improved offensive line and receiving corps could give him the necessary firepower to put up a monster stat line.

For Brown, the path is much more difficult. Not only would he need to set career highs in receptions, yards, and touchdowns, but he would also need his quarterback not to play to the same level. The last receiver to win the award was Jerry Rice in 1987, where he caught 22 touchdowns in just 12 games. Brown would likely need to have a similar stat line to win the award.

Of the two, Carr is the much safer and better bet as he is poised to have a career year in Oakland.
