Raiders OL Trent Brown to play right tackle in Oakland

When the Oakland Raiders signed offensive tackle Trent Brown in free agency, the belief was that he could replace Kolton Miller at left tackle. Brown spent all last season protecting the blindside of Tom Brady and was handsomely rewarded because of his play.

However, head coach Jon Gruden said at his Friday press conference that Brown will go back to playing right tackle and Miller will stay on the left side.

In terms of fit, this makes sense. Miller is better on the left side as he can use his incredible athleticism to stay with pass-rushers and Brown can use his size to maul defenders in the run game.

However, Brown is now the highest-paid right tackle in all of football, but that doesn’t really matter to Gruden. He just wants the five best offensive linemen on the field and putting Brown at right tackle accomplishes that.
