Tuesday the NFL sent out memos to all 32 teams ordering them to hold their training camps at their own facility as opposed to off-site. One of the NFL teams who holds their annual training camp at a remote location is the Raiders, who have spent training camp in Napa for the past 24 years.
For most NFL teams, their “home facility” is obvious. For the Raiders, it is not as they currently still reside in Alameda while their new site in Henderson, Nevada has been under construction. So, for them, there was a question as to where they would call ‘home’ for training camp.
Late on Tuesday night, they made it official that it will be their new home where they will hold training camp.
The Raiders are in receipt of the league’s memo dictating that all 2020 training camps must be held at each team’s home facility. We will follow the league’s protocol accordingly and begin preparations to host training camp at Raiders Headquarters in Henderson, Nevada. The Raiders would like to thank and acknowledge the city of Napa and the Napa Valley Marriott, which has been our summer home for 24 years. We will evaluate future training camp locations at a later date.
The statement leaves it open for the team to return to Napa next year and possibly beyond, which is smart, because it is widely considerably arguably the best training camp locale and setup in the league.
Mark Davis announced at last year’s training camp that the team would be back to Napa for training camp this year. Then the coronavirus hit and changed those plans.
