Raiders make six moves as roster cuts begin

September 5 is the deadline for NFL teams to get down to 53 players. That deadline is four days away, but the Raiders got a jump on things on Tuesday, making a series of moves.

The biggest news was the team has placed Tyrell Williams on injured reserve. The big “X” receiver had suffered a torn labrum in training camp, but it was originally thought he would play through the injury. That plan changed and he will now have surgery and end his season.

He wasn’t the only transaction though. The team also let go of five other players.

Waived: DE Sharif Finch, OL Jordan Roos

Waived/failed physical: CB Nick Nelson

Released: OL Jordan Devey, RB Rod Smith

They had released CB Prince Amukamara Monday but that was to make room for the addition of LB Raekwon McMillan who the team acquired in a trade from the Miami Dolphins.

These moves bring the roster to 74 players which means 21 more cuts are still to come.
