Raiders lose RB coach Jemal Singleton to the Bengals

The Raiders lost another member of coach Jon Gruden’s staff on Monday, with former running backs coach Jemal Singleton set to take the same role with the Bengals, according to The Mercury News’ Matt Schneidman.

As Schneidman noted, former Raiders quarterback coach Brian Callahan already left Oakland to take a job with Cincinnati. Callahan upgraded positions while Singleton did not, however. Singleton will remain a running back coach and Callahan will be the offensive coordinator.

The news comes shortly after the University of Tennessee plucked defensive backs coach Derrick Ansley from the Raiders’ coaching ranks. Ansley’s coaching experience before coming to Oakland in 2018 consisted of collegiate jobs, as well.

The Raiders are about to embark on a major roster overhaul, so Gruden needs experienced coaches at every position. The most pressing issue could be at the running back spot. Of last year’s halfbacks, only Jalen Richard looks poised to be a major contributor next season, and Oakland will need a steady hand to guide any new runners they bring into camp.
