Raiders LB Brandon Marshall released, CB Isaiah Johnson moved to roster

This time last week Brandon Marshall was celebrating his return to the Raiders. He had been signed this offseason but was among the final roster cuts in part due to the Raiders not feeling like he was ever able to get back to full health from a knee injury he suffered last season with the Broncos.

The eighth-year linebacker was considerably excited to be joining the Raiders who would be playing in his hometown of Las Vegas in 2020. So, getting another shot at sticking with the team last week was welcome news for him.

At the same time he was signed, the Raiders also added veteran linebacker Will Compton. Come the game on Sunday against the Lions, it was Compton who suited up and Marshall was rendered inactive. Now he is once again released.

His release was the corresponding move with the Raiders activating rookie cornerback Isaiah Johnson who had been on injured reserve the first eight games of the season.

Johnson was selected 129th overall by the Raiders in this year’s Draft. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound cornerback appeared in 45 games over four seasons at the University of Houston. He was originally recruited as a wide receiver and converted to cornerback following his sophomore season appearing in 23 games with 15 starts totaling 115 tackles (88 solo), 4 interceptions and 16 passes defended.
