Before free agency, it appeared to be a lock that the Raiders would select a linebacker sometime in the first round. But after the team signed two big-time linebackers in free agency in Cory Littleton and Nick Kwiatkoski, there suddenly isn’t a need at the position.
However, the Raiders are lacking a significant amount of depth at the linebacker position. After Littleton and Kwiatkoski, the cupboard is awfully bare. But it does appear the Raiders are interested in adding to that position during the draft.
According to Justin Melo of the Draft Wire, the Raiders have met with former Fresno State linebacker Mykal Walker. He was highly productive in college, finishing his college career with 325 tackles and 11 sacks. He started 40 games in college, making the first-team All-Mountain West Conference team in back to back seasons.
According to The Athletic’s Dane Brugler, Walker is projected to be a late-round pick or a priority free agent but could make an NFL team due to his incredible athleticism.
At the NFL Combine, Walker ran a 4.65 40-yard dash at 230 ponds. He also excelled in the broad jump (122″) and in the 20-yard shuttle (4.25). Considering his experience and athleticism, look for him to make a roster. Expect the Raiders to have some late-round interest in Walker.
