Raiders give LB Brandon Marshall only $450,000 in guarantees

The Oakland Raiders have been highly aggressive in free agency. They have signed numerous starters, but for the most part, they haven’t overpaid for anyone. Once again, the Raiders were able to get a steal in free agency signing linebacker Brandon Marshall to a very team-friendly deal.

According to Mike Klis, the Raiders signed Marshall to a deal worth just $1.1 million. If Marshall hits all of his incentives, that number could go up to $4.75 million. But as Klis listed, only $495,000 is guaranteed.

Marshall was an adequate linebacker last year and this deal reflects that. If Oakland finds a linebacker they like early in the draft, the team could bench or release Marshall with hardly any repercussions. This is an outstanding move for the Raiders with tremendous upside and little downside.

Between Vontaze Burfict and Marshall, neither is guaranteed a roster spot due to their salaries. That is going to create lots of needed competition at linebacker for the Raiders. General manager Mike Mayock is once again proving that he knows what he is doing.
