Raiders FS Lamarcus Joyner to receive $16.7 million in guarantees

During the first day of the NFL’s legal tampering period, the Oakland Raiders signed versatile safety Lamarcus Joyner to a four-year deal. A day later, the numbers are starting to come in for the Raiders’ new safety.

According to Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, Joyner is set to receive $16.7 million in guarantees next week. Simple math says that’s just over $4 million per season, significantly less than what some of the other safeties on the market received.

While the initial numbers were somewhat shocking, this appears to be a steal for the Raiders, considering what the rest of the market was getting paid. Oakland was able to sign one of the best safeties in the league on the open market to less than market value. That is one impressive win for new general manager Mike Mayock.
