Raiders FS Lamarcus Joyner missed just 5 tackles in 2018

One of the goals for the Raiders this offseason was to improve their secondary. Through two days of free agency, the Raiders have been able to accomplish that goal.

On Monday night, Oakland signed safety Lamarcus Joyner to a four-year deal. One of the best parts about Joyner’s game is his versatility. He can play all over the field, due to his tackling ability. According to Pro Football Focus, Joyner missed just five tackles in all of 2018, despite playing over 1,100 snaps. Here is what the site had to say about the Raiders’ new safety:

After a dominant 2017 outing saw Joyner earn the franchise tag, he took a marked step back this past season. He had 10 combined interceptions and pass breakups in 2017, and that dropped to only two this past season. Still, he’s a missile on the back end who is one of the soundest tackling safeties in the NFL with only nine misses over the past two seasons.

Joyner and fellow safety Karl Joseph should prove to be one of the better tackling combinations in the league at safety. Expect the Raiders’ secondary to be significantly better in 2019.
