A man was threatened by thieves who ransacked his home and made off with a four-figure sum.
Two men forced their way into the 48-year-old victim's home in Ayr on Saturday evening.
He was not seriously hurt in the raid on Main Road at around 8.45pm, police said.
The suspects escaped with cash and personal items before leaving the area in a vehicle.
They were white, of medium build and wore dark clothing and scarves.
Detective constable Barry Gibson said: "I am keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the suspects hanging around the area prior to the robbery taking place or anyone who may have seen then making off afterwards."
