Raiders find Rodney Hudson replacement, signing former Texans C Nick Martin

The shuffle continues along the Raiders’ offensive line. The day after the Raiders sent Pro Bowl center Rodney Hudson to the Cardinals for a third-round pick, they signed former Texans center Nick Martin according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Martin was a second-round pick by the Texans in the 2016 draft. He has started every game in which he’s appeared in his four-year career, and hasn’t missed a game in three seasons. He was widely considered one of the top centers on the market.

Like Hudson, Martin is considered one of the best pass-blocking centers in the league. He signed a lucrative three-year extension just last year and was cut this offseason before the first year of that extension even began, thus saving the Texans $6.25 million against the cap.

He replaced Rodney Hudson who was traded in order to save the Raiders cap money in the future with just $1 million saved this season. So, whatever Martin makes this season, add $12 million for what the Raiders are paying for their starting center this season.
