The Sydney Roosters' hopes of winning three straight premierships have been dashed after they went down 22-18 to the Canberra Raiders in a pulsating first NRL semi-final at the SCG.
In a rematch of last year's grand final, the Raiders made a blistering start to the sudden-death clash and established a 16-0 lead during the first half, before the Roosters edged their way back into the contest.
The Roosters cut the Raiders' lead to four points midway through the second half, but the visitors gave themselves some breathing space when Jack Wighton scored a converted try in the 68th minute.
A James Tedesco try six minutes later and the conversion from Kyle Flanagan once again made it a four-point game, however the Raiders were able to hang on in the dying stages to keep their season alive.
The Raiders will face the Melbourne Storm in the NRL preliminary finals.
More to come.
