Senior Canberra players have given their blessing to controversial ex-Canterbury forward Adam Elliott joining the Raiders for the 2022 NRL season.

The second-rower's one-year deal was officially announced by Canberra on Tuesday.

Elliott was released from the final two years of his Bulldogs contract after an infamous toilet tryst in August with NRLW player and his now girlfriend Millie Boyle.

He was also in trouble for Mad Monday celebrations in 2018 while had an altercation with former Bulldogs player Michael Lichaa earlier this year.

But Raiders coach Ricky Stuart said he was impressed with Elliott in their pre-signing conversations.

Stuart said the club's senior players had been consulted about Elliot's recruitment.

"I've spoken to Adam on a number of occasions and he's really excited about joining our club and taking the next step in his career," Stuart said in a statement.

"We made sure we spoke to a number of the senior players and leaders at the club about Adam and they were all very supportive of us signing him and that gives us the confidence that he'll be able to fit in with our squad.

"He's a very talented player and we look forward to seeing him play his best football with the Raiders."

Elliott, who played 101 first-grade matches for the Bulldogs after making his debut in 2016, said he was excited for the opportunity.

"I'm extremely excited to come to Canberra, make a fresh start and I'm very grateful for the opportunity the Raiders, Ricky and the coaching staff have given me," Elliott said.

"I can't wait to get to Canberra and start the pre-season and be a part of the club."

Elliott will join the Raiders for pre-season training in mid-November.
