Raiders coach Jon Gruden reacts to his brother Jay Gruden’s firing

Former Redskins head coach Jay Gruden entered a Week 5 matchup against the Patriots knowing that his job was in jeopardy, and following an 0-5 start to the season, the Redskins finally fired Gruden after making him report for a meeting at 5:00 a.m. ET on Monday.

Despite never winning more than nine games in a season, Gruden lasted a full five years in Washington, and exited with a record of 35-49-1. He joins a not-so-elite list of fired NFL head coaches, which includes his brother, current Raiders coach Jon Gruden, who welcomed him to the club when speaking to reporters about the news for the first time on Tuesday.

Via ESPN:

“I’m obviously very disappointed for my brother. It was a long night, last couple of nights. He worked hard. Got a lot of respect for my brother. Obviously, disappointed for him getting fired…. My dad’s been fired. I’ve been fired. Jay’s been fired and … welcome to the club, bro.”

Jon Gruden was last fired in 2009, following consecutive 9-7 seasons with the Buccaneers.
