Raiders claim former Packers QB DeShone Kizer

The next step of DeShone Kizer’s rollercoaster NFL career will come in Oakland.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Raiders claimed Kizer, who was waived by the Green Bay Packers during final cutdowns on Saturday.

Pakers GM Brian Gutekunst originally acquired Kizer via trade with the Cleveland Browns in March of 2018. He was a second-round pick of the Browns in 2017 and started 15 games for the franchise as a rookie.

Despite being Aaron Rodgers’ backup in 2018, Kizer lost out to second-year undrafted free agent Tim Boyle for the No. 2 job this summer.

The Raiders saw Kizer in person in Winnipeg during the third preseason game. He completed 4 of 7 passes for 24 yards and an interception and took three sacks during the second half.

Kizer has the physical tools to play the position but has lacked accuracy and decision-making abilities. He’s thrown 24 interceptions in 18 career regular season games.
