Raiders CB Trayvon Mullen season likely over with second trip to injured reserve

Trayvon Mullen’s return to the Raiders lineup was short-lived. Having been on injured reserve the past two months, Mullen returned last Sunday against the Chiefs. He made it through the first half, but early in the third quarter was lost to a toe injury and didn’t return. That toe injury has now sent him back to injured reserve.

Injured reserve is a minimum three weeks this season, and with just four games left, it looks likely that Mullen’s season is done.

The former second round pick came into this season as a solidified incumbent starter. Casey Hayward took over the starting job opposite him with Nate Hobbs starting at the nickel spot.

With Mullen done and Hobbs sent to the reserve/COVID-19 list, the Raiders secondary will be vulnerable. Brandon Facyson figures to resume starting duties outside as he did while Mullen was on injured reserve before. Amik Robertson or Keisean Nixon would step in to play the nickel corner role.
